FAQ

Please ensure that you have created a google account and is signed into the google account. If you have multiple google accounts signed into your browser, sign out of every other account except the account that is currently shared into the digital portfolio. If you are still unable to access your child's digital portfolio, please submit an ICT ticket here.

Digital portfolios are not to be published publicly. They are to be only shared with teachers and parents.

Course Nicknames

• You may want to adjust the nickname for each course. That way, you can include each child's first initial or name ahead of the course name (e.g. Bruce - Year 7 English & Mary - Year 9 English).

• Course nicknames appear in the Dashboard, course navigation menu, and notification emails. The nicknames will also appear on the Canvas app.

• The course nickname is only available to the individual user who created the nicknames. 

Course Colors

• You may want to change the colour on the course cards. For example, one student's course cards are red, one student's course cards are blue, and one student's course cards are purple.

• The course card colours are only available to the individual user who selected the colours.

Integration with other resources and platforms are often hyperlinked in our Canvas courses for student learning. Please note, not all integrations are available to parents. We aim to ensure the majority of content is embedded directly into Canvas to avoid this issue wherever possible.

• Announcements: a communication tool which allows teachers to post material for students in a course. Class work and homework for each lesson will be posted as an announcement for student lessons. Teachers can also allow students to reply to announcements. 

• Assignments: any activity created by the teacher which can include Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes. Some assignments are submitted for no grade whilst others will be submitted for grading and released on Canvas.

• Calendar: communication tool which shows all events and assignments in courses.

• Dashboard: a panel of content that acts as the Canvas default landing page and provides an overview for all courses and groups, recent activity, to-do items, upcoming assignments and recent feedback.

• Discussions: a forum designed to facilitate informal communication between students in a course. They can also be created as assignments, allowing students to respond to informal and graded discussions in the context of a group.

• Observer: the term given to parents due to their permissions in Canvas.
